A wedding is a massive event in a girl’s life and a pre-wedding shoot is nothing less than that. From a safety pin to the colour of the wedding dress, every damn thing is essential.

The first and most important event comes to the pre-wedding shoot. After all, it is all about the pictures.

PRE WEDDING SHOOT
PRE-WEDDING SHOOT

Pictures can make or break the mood( at least for us, girls). Hence it becomes very important to set the foundations right.

Being a professional makeup artist, I have been to various pre-wedding shoots. The to-be bride is usually confused regarding her outfit, hair and makeup. It seems that too much is going on for her and confusion is the only look she gives!

Here I am writing about all the things related to hair and makeup that you might need to know if you are planning to get a pre-wedding shoot done.

Have a good skincare routine days before the pre-wedding shoot

The pre-wedding shoot or any shoot with the camera goes 10 times deep covering all the skin issues that you might even don’t know. The camera takes high-resolution pictures that can see each scar or acne on the skin.

SKINCARE FOR PREWEDDING SHOOT
SKINCARE IS ESSENTIAL FOR A GOOD MAKEUP

That is why you must take care of your skin well. And also the better the skin, the better the makeup will be.

Stay well hydrated, take a good diet and be physically active- the basic three things for a fit body and healthy skin.

Take care of your hair before the pre-wedding shoot

Hair is the look maker or breaker in any given case. You might have beautiful makeup but your hair isn’t in place and going here and there in the pictures, will ruin the pictures.

Wash your hair a day before the shoot and not on the prewedding shoot day itself. Washing a day before will save you a lot of time in the morning and also it will give your hair enough time to dry and adjust on its own.

If you have very fine hair, please skip conditioner as it will further make it difficult to manage them. If frizziness is your problem, tame it using products.

HAIR FOR PREWEDDING
Hair plays an important role in pictures

Some clients already get their keratin treatment is done which helps a lot in the shoot as they already look so manageable every time. Also, a fresh blow-dry is everything.

Mostly in the pictures, open hair looks wonderful rather than a tied hairdo. so I guess it is better to have loose hair and give variation in straight and waves hair only.

Keep a balance while planning outfits for your pre-wedding

The one common thing that both the groom and the bride asked the photographer is what kind of outfit to take! I have seen both-too less and too many outfits.

It is a good idea to take a balanced approach while selecting outfits for the pre-wedding shoot. coordinate well with the groom as the colour coordinated/ contrast outfits look amazing in pictures.

FLOWY DRESSES FOR PRE WEDDING SHOOT
FLOWY DRESSES MAKE PRE-WEDDING PICTURES LOOK AMAZING
  • Carry two to three casuals like tees, shorts, skirts or jeans etc. for a casual look
  • Have one or two evening gown
  • A lightweight saree in a bright colour (try taking a pre-pleated ready-to-wear saree as it will save time and effort)
  • Carry three to four dresses in different lengths (mini, maxi, printed, solid etc)
  • A lehenga or salwar suit can also be added according to the kind of shoot you are going for. Some brides especially rent a wedding lehenga or some like to have a Christian bride look for the pre-wedding shoot.

Keep limited footwear options for the pre-wedding shoot

Don’t go all out with your footwear packing girls as they won’t be even seen in most of the pictures. Do not overpack with this one. Mostly the dresses are going to be long and flowy or the kind where the footwear won’t be even visible.

You can carry a pair of white sneakers, nude pumps/ heels and flats/sandals as these things go with anything and everything.

Do not forget your hands and nails

The one body part that is going to be visible the most is your hands. Almost all the close-up shots will have your hands lying either on your partner or your hair.

NAILS AND HANDS IN PREWEDDING SHOOT
Basic and neat nails look beautiful in pictures

Keep your nails well-trimmed, filed and painted. If you can get a manicure, nothing can beat it. Take care of your hands as well. keep them moisturized and apply good hand cream/heavy moisturizer at night before sleeping.

Nothing beats a minimal no makeup look in pictures

Yes, we all are guilty of following trends be it in outfits or makeup. but listen, girls, the classic no-makeup makeup look or nude makeup looks the most flattering in pictures.

Properly filled brows, nude lips and nothing too much going on in the eyes are just simple and sassy. If you are planning to hire a makeup artist for the prewedding shoot for the day is a big thumbs up as he/she might fix all the issues throughout the day and will help you with touch-ups. No problems on that part.

You may search for the makeup artist on Instagram or may ask your photographers for the same. sometimes they have their in-house makeup artist a well, who knows their job very well.

Cameras can see through your skin well. Hence the more makeup you apply, the more it is going to show up in pictures.

If you are planning to do your makeup yourself then keep face tissues, earbuds and wet facial wipes handy as they are going to help you all through the day.

Get done with your waxing and facial sessions one or two days before.

FINALLY…

These are a few tips which I have personally kept in my mind while planning the pre-wedding shoot. The most useful tip will be to ‘be you and happy. Have a chill mood. Don’t fret over small things as these small things happen with everyone. No planning is perfect and things don’t happen our way always. Just enjoy your time with your partner as this pre-wedding shoot is for both of you guys. Cheers!!
