The skincare market is flooded with products, and influencer culture pushes that even further — the urge to buy things you don't actually need. Toner used to be exactly that for me. I genuinely used to wonder why they mattered, why add an extra step, why spend the money at all.
Three years into using toners properly now, I know exactly what difference they make. Today's review: the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner.
I'm on the oilier side, so I typically reach for Plum Green Tea Toner in summer — but winter has me craving something more hydrating. After a lot of research (and a long-pending wishlist item), I finally picked up the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner.
A lot of people get confused about what this actually is — toner? Lotion? Emulsion? It's a creamy toner: hydration in a bottle with a thin, lotion-like consistency. Great for dry skin year-round, and for oily skin specifically in winter.

What's Good About It
Who It's For
Best for dry skin as a year-round toner. For oily skin, it works well as a summer lotion and a winter toner.
Texture & Fragrance
Watery-creamy, as Laneige itself describes it — a genuine "liquid cream," if that makes sense. The fragrance is the mildest of mild, gentle enough for sensitive skin too.
How to Use It
Pat it onto skin until it absorbs — the same technique that works for any toner. After cleansing, take a small amount on your palm and pat it in. Trust me, you'll glow.
My Take
I'd been eyeing this for ages without finding much clarity on what it actually was — customer reviews are what finally convinced me. True to my habit of finishing one product before starting the next, I waited until my Plum toner ran out before purchasing this one.
After cleansing with Avène Cleansing Gel, I used this as my toner step, and the glow and hydration genuinely surprised me — more than I'd expect from something in the "toner" category. I fell for it immediately, and I have a feeling this is going to double as my summer moisturiser too. I'll update on how my skin does without a separate moisturiser layered on top.

Holy grail statusAbsolutely, and I'd recommend it without hesitation if your budget allows. One tip: grab the travel size first before committing to full size.
